World Breastfeeding Week 2021: Ways To Prevent Sagging Breasts

Women sometimes avoid breastfeeding because they are concerned about the effects on the appearance of their breasts. However, research has shown that breastfeeding does not negatively affect breast size or volume and is not a risk factor for sagging breasts pregnancysaid Dr. Lovleena Nadir, Rosewalk Hospital.

Factors that contribute to breast sagging include:

* Pregnancy is indeed the main cause of sagging breasts, not breastfeeding, due to hormonal changes. Due to the stretching of Cooper’s ligaments (which help attach and hold the breasts to the pectoral muscles) and the loss of skin elasticity during pregnancy, the risk of sagging increases. It increases with each pregnancy and occurs regardless of whether the baby is breastfed or not.
* Women who have bigger ones Breasts are more susceptible to the effects of gravity.
* Multiple pregnancies increase the risk of sagging regardless of breastfeeding.
* Smoking helps relax your chest because nicotine breaks down elastin (a protein that maintains skin elasticity and helps skin stretch and recover).
* Other causes include aging, collagen deficiency, lack of estrogen, excessive sun exposure, increased BMI and rapid weight loss.

“So a bit of sagging is inevitable, but following certain tips can prove useful in maintaining optimal breast health during pregnancy and breastfeeding,” said Dr. Nadir.

Tips

* A properly fitting, supportive bra is important to counteract gravity and provide support. Enlargement of the breast can put strain on the braces. After the baby is weaned, the breasts decrease in mass and size. A well-fitting bra is useful for maintaining your breast shape.
* Maintaining Healthy Weight: Slow weight loss after giving birth helps the body adapt. Losing half a kg a week is enough.
* A balanced diet with sufficient protein promotes healthy collagen production and maintains skin health.
* Foods high in antioxidants, including fruits and leafy green vegetables, help detoxify the skin and help maintain the integrity and appearance of the skin.
* Boosting Estrogen Production: Add soy, flaxseed, tofu, and other foods containing phytoestrogens to your diet to help maintain breast volume.
* Regular breast massage will help increase blood circulation and cell growth.
* Stay hydrated: drink 2-3 liters of water a day. Moisture keeps your skin healthy and plump.
* Limit dehydrating drinks like tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, and alcohol.
* Protect yourself from the sun’s UV rays: Wear sunscreens with high protection to protect your skin and keep the skin elastic.
* Moisturize and exfoliate your skin.
* Include regular physical activity. Consider adding chest presses, pushups, and weight training to your workout routine.
* Practice good posture.
* Wean your baby slowly.
