The rise of lifestyle estates in Soweto – with jogging trails, club houses and biometric access

The Jabulani Junction artistic impression

There’s a stark contrast between the “old” Soweto and the new lifestyle estates going up in South Africa’s biggest township. From biometric access control to 24-hour manned security gates and clubhouses, Soweto’s new developments have facilities akin to those in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs.

In JSE-listed Calgro M3’s Jabulani Junction, a 3km walking and jogging trail is under construction that meanders along new apartments with premium finishes.

In Orlando, Nedbank and FNB are backing the new Orlando Towers Estate that’s selling apartments for between R670 575 and R1 million. Once complete, that estate will also boast biometric access control, fibre-ready apartments, braai facilities, a clubhouse and a football pitch.
