North Andover seniors love to party at prom at sea – CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) – Yellow school buses replaced stretch limos as the seniors of North Andover High School made their way to prom in Boston. Like much of the school year, this event was a little different.

“I feel weird on a boat, but to be honest – I kind of like it because it’s on the water,” said NAHS Senior Clay Urzu.

You can’t see their smiles under the face masks, but you can hear the excitement in their voices.

“It’s honestly really beautiful,” said NAHS Senior Norah Rivers. “You want to see everyone before graduation because it’s been a year. It was really hard. ”

It was especially difficult for the class of 2021 whose junior prom was wiped out by COVID-19. The year before, electrical and electronic equipment put their autumn sport at risk.

Prom almost didn’t happen this year, but the vaccine came with it. The North Andover School District organized a vaccination clinic on campus to encourage more students to roll up their sleeves – not just for their health, but so they can enjoy some of their senior activities.

“I think 71% of our seniors were vaccinated on Monday and our city numbers were great,” said director Chet Jackson.

Principal Jackson said a dinner cruise on Boston Harbor would be the best option to filter open air through the ship. Along with the Boutonnières, the students had to wear a face mask on board, except when eating.

“It’s not that important to me anymore. I don’t want to wear the masks at some point, “Rivers told WBZ-TV.

Between hybrid learning and social distancing, this was one of the first times the senior class felt one of the many joys of high school before graduation.

“I’m glad we got the chance to go to prom. It’s a huge, influential moment in our high school career, ”said one student.

Headmaster Jackson added that they had postponed the prom until May 21 to give students at least two weeks to quarantine before graduation.
