The government should examine whether further grants can be granted within the framework of the large sports infrastructure fund.
The LSSIF was launched in 2018 with the aim of supporting large projects for sports facilities from the central government. Projects were eligible if the financial investment was higher than the maximum amount available under the Sports Capital Program (SCP).
The government provided a capital allocation of at least EUR 100 million between 2018 and 2027.
A number of high profile projects have been financed from the fund. Connacht Rugby’s sports field received € 10 million to build a high-performance training center and a modern stadium with a capacity of 12,000.
