Author David Colburn shares how Dr. Mike Reynolds is an Emporia-based ophthalmologist providing cataract surgery and related services to patients at satellite clinics from Chanute to Herington. Reynolds has been serving at St. Luke Hospital in Marion since 2000, with monthly clinic visits and typically bi-monthly surgeries.

The National Catholic Conference for Rural Life has chosen the Catholic Church of St. John Nepomucen in Pilsen for its Christmas card 2011. The front altar and background are depicted on the front of the card, and on the back there is a photo and information about the church. The church was built in 1916. The NCRLC was founded in 1923 to serve the rural Church, rural populations, and their communities.

Marion High School student Caitlyn Maloney wrote the first place essay for the Voice of Democracy contest sponsored by Marion’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6958 and their Relief Society.

Ramona conservationist Jay Plank recently bought the Lincolnville United Methodist Church building from church conference. In May the church disbanded.

“I want to keep the building there,” said Plank. He and his son Justin continue to work to restore and maintain the Rosebank Brethren in the Christ Church building northeast of Ramona, which he bought last winter.

Employee Jennifer Stultz tells how Brian Meeks von Goessel drives a 90-inch stretch limousine and waits at the weekend. It transports wedding guests and drivers who request special driver services to Wichita and Newton.

Jim Horinek is pictured cutting a piece of cowhide into the shape of a moccasin sole in his family shoe workshop in Pilsen. Horinek does not consider any task too small, too big or too difficult.
