Manchester comes alive again as thousands flock to the city center – the best of pictures

On the first weekend since the lockdown was eased, shoppers returned en masse to the city center

It has looked like a ghost town for the past few months, but life is now breaking back to downtown Manchester.

For the first weekend since the lockdown was eased, many shoppers returned to Market Street and the Arndale Center.

The busy scenes would have been familiar to all Mancunians, when people weaved in and out of street performers while lugging shopping bags around.

Queues meandered in front of several shops as the groups relaxed in a sun-drenched Piccadilly garden.

A stone’s throw away, in the northern neighborhood, friends caught up with a drink or two for the first time in months.

It might take some time for the city center to return to its busiest state, but as our photographer’s pictures show, it is slowly returning to normal.
