Folkestone Harbor Arm appears to be a victim of its own success.
It has become so popular that those in charge knew it would be way too busy to allow social distancing.
That is why they decided to do the table service themselves only for eating or drinking on the arm.
You can buy takeaway food and drinks, but these must be consumed outside the company.

But from what I’ve seen, that wasn’t the case.
Vendors only seemed to serve people when they were seated at a table and turned away anyone who approached the stalls directly.
At some point, even though tables were available, the Big Greek Bus stopped taking food orders anyway because they were just too busy.
The Harbor Arm was busy but not moving on Friday (April 16).

My own order took 45 minutes.
Which was weird because I’ve seen the arm a lot busier in the past.
This wasn’t my first rodeo or whatever the Greeks do for fun.

I’ve had dozens of their incredible souvlaki wraps even with positive arm movement.
The ordering system itself worked perfectly.

It was necessary to create an account, a little awkward but otherwise fine.
And the food when it finally arrived was what you always get from the Big Greek Bus – incredibly tasty, deliciously marinated meat.
Why did it take so long?
Even just sitting at the tables, there seemed to be hundreds of people there – not surprising given the glorious sunshine.
However, only three grocery stores were open.

Either way, on the first weekend since the lockdown was eased for us, they need to find a way to quickly improve things.
If not, that’s not too bad either.
View over the sparkling English Channel, bite into the tender Greek-style lamb, sip on a cold Guinness and consider how it all compares to five months in the same four walls …
To be honest, the wait was quickly forgotten.
