VOLUNTEER groups that use sport to inspire young people to improve their lives can apply for grants from a new fund to help them recover from the pandemic.
Made By Sport is a charity that is raising awareness of the power of sport across the UK and has partnered with the Wiltshire Community Foundation to offer grassroots clubs £ 2,021 grants to help youngsters develop their life skills, their careers Improve prospects or reduce antisocial behavior and crime.
“The key to the fund is that it supports clubs and organizations that purposely use the delivery of community sport to achieve broader social outcomes, rather than those focused on developing and expanding participation opportunities,” said Fiona Oliver, joint executive director of the Wiltshire Community Foundation, manages the grants on behalf of Made By Sport.
Groups eligible for the fund can demonstrate that Covid-19 has had an operational or financial impact on them and that they need funding to save, resume or adjust their activities. Priority will be given to groups working in disadvantaged communities.
The grants are unrestricted and can be spent on staff, equipment and equipment, volunteer costs, surveillance, transportation, or small capital projects such as changing rooms, renovating a play area, or IT. They can also be used for match funding or to leverage a larger program.
Ms. Oliver said, “We are proud to be working with Made By Sport on this funding because we know that sport is such a powerful tool to encourage and communicate with young people.”
According to Made By Sport, every pound invested in exercise and recreation brings a return of £ 4.34 in savings on crime, truancy and illness expenses. “Physically active young people demonstrate seven times better teamwork, six times better resilience and five times better communication skills,” said chairman Justin King.
“Physically active children have a 25 percent lower risk of anxiety and mild depression is 52 percent lower in active people.”
