Ford has been overthrown from its five decades of dominance in the UK new car market. With Ford lagging behind its competitors in becoming a purely electric car manufacturer in Europe – Ford only has one zero-emission vehicle on the road – it seems that the American corporation will never regain its British market leadership.
Forty years ago, every third car sold in the UK was a Ford, and two decades ago it was dominant, with every sixth new car being a Ford. In the balance sheet for 2021, however, the group is likely to have sold around 120,000 new cars in Great Britain with a market share of just over 7 percent.
