Here are the top five stories in Oceanside Camp Pendleton today:

  1. The North County Transit District Wednesday issued a reminder that trespassing on railroad tracks is dangerous and illegal. Teams of San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies will conduct “focused trespasser mitigation enforcement” along the transit district’s railroad right-of-way. According to the NCTD, an average of 12 people die each year due to illegally crossing or walking on NCTD’s railroad tracks. (Carlsbad Patch)
  2. Oceanside Police officers have been handing out cash to help pay for families’ groceries as part of its “Random Acts of Kindness Project.“OPD was given a $20,000 donation which the department will use throughout the year. The project started in 2021 as a Secret Santa Operation, but has since turned into a year-long project aimed at spreading a little kindness around the city of Oceanside. ( fox news)
  3. Looking to get rid of unwanted and expired prescription drugs? The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department will collect and dispose of these medicines during the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event is on Saturday, April 30 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Sheriff’s Deputies will be at the following locations (Press Release Desk)
  4. After 44 years of operation, the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station accumulated 3.55 million pounds of radioactive fuel spent. On a recent tour of the station, US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm addressed where she hopes San Onofre’s spent fuel will be going. The spent fuel is resting in 123 massive canisters on the north side of the now decommissioned facility that was once among the largest in the nation. So where’s it all going to go? (iHeart)
  5. the surf community gathered at the California Surf Museum to celebrate the life of Donald Moke Takayama. Mixed in with hundreds of us mere mortals, were Linda Benson, LJ Richards, Ilima Kalama, Joey Buran, Joey Cabell and other wave riders who had helped shape our sport. Donald was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Nov. 16, 1943, and left us on Oct. 22, 2012. Donald began making his own surfboards in his early teens. By his mid 20s, his model was one of the most sought-after boards of the ’60s. (Coast News)
