Here are 8 drink events in January

If you’re looking for a booze-packed day to get 2022 off to a flying start, consider these eight January drink events featuring Chinese New Year cocktails, punch, wine fairs and booze-fuelled brunches.

Tribeca Bar & Bistro hosts a festival at The Grandstand where you can taste craft spirits and wines in flights. Further south, restaurant and grocer The Dempsey Project showcases its aperitivo sessions, which bundle mezze platters and select drinks during the sunset hours. Akira Back opens her Sunday brunch with sashimi and Suntory cocktails, and Zafferano pops the champagne for her Lunar New Year brunch.

Smoke & Mirrors partners with the National Gallery to tour the paintings that inspired their drinks, and MO Bar offers afternoon tea to enjoy alongside their latest cocktail menu. From Burger & Lobster come two seasonal cocktails to welcome the Year of the Tiger and Republic turns to a cocktail legend for their punches.

22-23 January: Tribeca Tipple, Wine and Spirits Trade Show

Tribeca Bar & Bistro hosts a wine and spirits fair featuring a wide variety of spirits and wine. For S$68, visitors can book a tasting for the flight of their choice including Codigo 1530 Tequila, Rum & Cane, Scotch Whiskeys from The Lost Distillery Company and Old Youngs Vodka.

Red wine flights consist of South African Pinotage, Italian Barbera d’Alba, French Pinot Noir, Australian Grenache, and Chilean Carmenere, while white wines include Chilean Viognier Riserva, McLarenvale Riesling, French Aligote, Italian Catarato, and Marlborough Bay Sauvignon Blanc.

The fair will take place on January 22nd and 23rd, 2022. Each flight costs S$68, each additional flight S$38. Small snacks are provided.

Toast the spirit of the Lunar New Year on January 29-30, 2022 at Zafferano with a champagne brunch (from $118 per person). The celebratory edition features contemporary Italian fare served in a sharing style.

The brunch features lucky symbols such as king prawns with avocado, ginger and Marie Rose sauce, trofie noodles with spanner crab, chilli and lime, and roasted cod with garlic strips, galangal and soy sauce.

Available on January 29 and 30, 2022 (Saturday and Sunday) from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

As part of the Light to Night Festival, Smoke & Mirrors is introducing its Art X Cocktails Tour ($35 per ticket), allowing drinkers to discover the inspiration behind the bar’s signature cocktail menu, The Real Art of Drinking.

The tour takes guests on an hour-long journey through the National Gallery and learn about the evolution of cocktails throughout history while seeing the paintings that inspired the menu. The tour ends at the rooftop bar with a complimentary drink.

Separately, as part of its sixth anniversary, Smoke & Mirrors is serving two cocktails from award-winning bartender Bannie Kang. Their Blah x 3 (S$26) combines Farmer’s Gin, guava and plum bitters, and Tiger’s Eye (S$25) features Michter’s American Whiskey, Earl Grey, winter melon cassia seeds, strawberries and lime.

The Art X Cocktails Tour will take place from January 15th to 30th, 2022.
Cocktails of the Month are available from January 17th to February 18th, 2022.

The $Huat-Long-Long builds absinthe, campari and sparkling water on top of Chivas 13 Sherry Cask for a bittersweet and herbaceous highball. The Prosperity $our turns Chivas 13 American Rye Cask, Campari and egg white into a fluffy whiskey sour with a hint of spice.

MO Bar, which made its debut on the 2021 list of the 50 Best Bars in the World, is launching the Oriental Afternoon Tea menu to be enjoyed with its cocktails from the newly launched Volume Four menu.

The set (S$52++ per person, S$98++ for two) includes bites like the crispy prawn ball with granola eggplant and salted egg mayo, plus mala toast and chicken mousseline with spring onions. Sweets include Mandarin Orange Marmalade with Citrus Mousse and Bak Kwa Floss Scone.

Pair the set with a cocktail from the bar’s new Volume 4 cocktail menu (S$68++), which explores destinations beyond the Pacific Ocean. “Full Moon”, for example, takes its cues from South Korea with Asian pear and wheatgrass, while “Afterglow” reinterprets Indonesian sunsets with gin, ginger and melted cotton candy.

Available daily from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. until February 28, 2022.

The menu will also be served during the Chinese New Year holiday from 29th January to 2nd February, with seating from 12:30pm to 2:30pm and 3pm to 5pm (S$58++ per guest).

Republic at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore is launching three punch bowls (S$250 each) made in collaboration with David Wondrich, one of the world’s leading authorities on cocktail history and one of the founders of modern craft cocktails -Move.

There’s the Paul Jones Punch, a blend of rye whiskey and sherry based on the American ship Paul Jones that brought the first blocks of American ice to Singapore in 1844, and there’s the shrub and cherry brandy, and Captain Dampier’s Rack Punch is based on the pirate and adventurer William Dampier from the 17th century with Sri Lankan arrack and cognac. Each bowl is large enough for 12 to 15 servings.

On Sundays, the bowls are part of their punch brunch experience (S$168 per person) with appetizers, entree and dessert, plus unlimited servings of punch and cocktails.

Punch brunch is available on Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Akira Back presents its Flowing Brunch for the first time, accompanied by Suntory cocktails and sake flights. Open every Sunday, the contemporary Japanese restaurant at the JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach offers its popular tuna pizza, sashimi platter, rock shrimp tempura and sushi rolls while sipping from a library of sake and Suntory cocktails.

Start your work week with a stiff drink and snacks from the bar at The Dempsey Project, which offers aperitivo sessions Mondays and Tuesdays from 4pm until closing time. For S$++ 25, guests can choose from an Aperol Spritz, Margarita, Processo, wine or beer and either a cheese, sausage or mezze platter. The mezze changes frequently: they are currently highlighting flavors from Morocco before focusing on Lebanon in February.
