Tesla loses its HR manager Valerie Capers Workman, who is also considered number one for the company’s diversity advocates.
Workman, a lawyer, joined Tesla’s Legal Department in 2018 as Associate General Counsel, Compliance. She rose quickly and was named Vice President of People in 2020, the automaker’s highest human resources division, which goes directly to CEO Elon. reports Musk.
Today Bloomberg reported that Workman is leaving Tesla to become chief legal officer of the career placement company Handshake.
She commented in an email:

Tesla was recently ordered to pay a former worker $ 137 million in a racial abuse lawsuit. In response, the automaker posted a blog post consisting of an internal email Workman sent to employees:

The executive was also featured in Tesla’s first Diversity and Inclusion Report as an example of the automaker’s support for minorities. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Workman was also the one to address employee concerns when CEO Elon Musk pushed for the Fremon factory to reopen despite local restrictions.
