A pub in Cwmbran has decided to completely forego meat as part of Veganuary.
The Queen Inn in Upper Cwmbran is serving an all plant-based menu throughout January as part of the challenge.
This means that all drinks, snacks and the menu will be completely meat-free and dairy-free for one month.

The pub is run by the Edwards family – Gareth, 50 and Jane, 56, who have owned the pub for 17 years, and their son Ryan, 24.

Ryan says the pub’s participation in the Challenge was inspired by his and Jane’s decision to go vegan a year ago.
He said, “We have seen the incredible effects a vegan diet can have on your health.
“I ran my first marathon in October in three minutes and 45 seconds. I would never have dreamed of that last year.
“The vegan diet is known worldwide for being much better for the environment and for avoiding unnecessary animal killing. My father also takes part in the Veganuary.
“The vegan community is growing massively and they deserve a lot more than just a few options on a pub menu. Our vegan options have grown significantly this year and even after the veganuary our menu will always be at least 50% vegan.”
The pub is preparing its vegan menu and has so far launched four dishes: a vegan “chicken” madras, “chicken” kiev, baked Mexican “chicken” enchiladas and a breakfast burger.
However, the pub has a huge menu of vegan, dairy and gluten-free snacks, pub classics, desserts, and even a Sunday lunch menu that can be viewed on Facebook.

Ryan says the pub has had a lot of positive feedback for participating in Veganuary and the support has been “overwhelming”.
He said, “Lots of vegans and customers are keen to try the options – even people we never expected to try are open-minded and will try some of the options.
“We’re well on our way to an insanely busy January as we’ve had more bookings for the month than ever in our 17 years of experience.”
