Park Sport is helping Eastleigh children reconnect with exercise

A SUMMER program has helped children and teenagers reconnect with sport in Eastleigh.

The Eastleigh Borough Council’s SportWorks team’s summer vacation program resumed this summer as the annual Park Sports program continued across the borough.

With activities for children between the ages of five and 16, this year saw more children take part than ever before.

Around 200 activities took place, including five SkateJams, 112 activity sessions from archery to golf, 15 Nerf events, a Mystery Solvers GPS Challenge and 75 free swimming slots during the summer holidays.

Health Cabinet Member Tonia Craig said, “We are delighted that so many children and young people from the borough are participating and benefiting from the great park sports program.

“We continue to make sure we support residents with healthy lifestyles and improve their wellbeing as we survive the pandemic.”

Park Sport is funded by Borough Council SportWorks, Local Area Committees, Parish and Town Councils.

It is supported by a wide range of partners including sports clubs, activity providers and facilities that allow activities to be heavily subsidized – free or as little as £ 1.

Now the council is asking participants for feedback on its website so that it can make improvements for the program for the next year.
