LAHORE: On Sunday, two different bike tours were organized in the city to raise public awareness of a better and healthy lifestyle and physical fitness.
The Pakistani Ministry of Drug Control and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) worked together to celebrate Sunday as International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with a bike tour from the Liberty Roundabout.
People from all walks of life, including families, gathered at the event location at 5:30 am for the “Ride and Fun” activity and paddled around four kilometers in the direction of the SIddiq Trade Center and then back to the starting point.
At the destination, brochures on drug abuse were also distributed among the participants and onlookers. The members of the organizing committee gave a brief description of the substance abuse and the harm it caused to society.
Later that evening, a youth-led initiative called “Ride Out Diabetes” was organized at the Defense Housing Authority in collaboration with DHA Lahore, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, Bikestan, Cycling Defense Lahore and a multinational company.
A large number of cyclists took part in the event and made people aware of diabetes management. This two-mile bike ride begins at DHA Business Hub Phase 8 and ends at the same point after making a U-turn at the Defense Housing Authority roundabout.
Dr. Atif Munir, Dr. S. Raifurul Islam and Dr. Abbas Raza fully supported the initiative and called for more such trips to be organized. There were no winners or losers on either trip, but it was an awareness campaign.
